Our department, the research support department in the NIID, is responsible for the following affairs: (1) operational management of BSL-3 laboratories and the BSL-4 facility, and laboratory biorisk management; (2) operational management of animal research facilities and laboratory animal health management; and (3) construction and maintenance of pathogen bank based on pathogens collected by the NIID. In addition, we will conduct research and study related to the affairs described above.

DIVISION OF BIOSAFETY CONTROL AND RESEARCH

This division is responsible for research, study, and training on safety management related to biological hazards.

• Safety management for ensuring the safety of staff who handle pathogenic microorganisms, etc.

DIVISION OF LABORATORY ANIMAL RESEARCH

This division is responsible for the breeding and health management of laboratory animals for medical use, as well as scientific research, and training related to animal researches.

• Support for maintaining the strain of laboratory mice

LABORATORY OF BIOSECURITY MANAGEMENT (MURAYAMA, BRANCH)

This laboratory is responsible for the biosecurity of the BSL-4 facility.

• Affairs related to laboratory biosecurity

LABORATORY OF ANIMAL TESTING MANAGEMENT (MURAYAMA, BRANCH)

This laboratory is responsible for the operational management of animal research facilities and the breeding and health management of laboratory animals at Murayama.
